This past weekend was the Starfury event Inva3ion for the shows- Caprica, Dollhouse, The Guild,Terminator the Sarah Connor chronicles, Torchwood and Starkid.
First thing I will quickly mention is the Team Starkid guests- i didn't really know who they were before the event had looked into them but It didn't really click with me so throughout this blog they will mostly be omitted just because other then the opening and closing ceremonies I never saw them at all- But I did hear good things from not only the fans who went to meet them but also friends who went along to check them out on stage etc. so no negativeness against them at all I just was too tired from con parties etc to be awake for their early morning talks. So... The Sci-fi Guests were: Thomas Dekker, Eve Myles,Naoko Mori,Enver Gjoki,Magda Aponowicz,Miracle Laurie and Robin Thorsen. Friday nights opening ceremony was as per usual ... Late and running on con time but when you with friends not seen since last event in December or even longer it not matter. As the guests came out one by one on stage was great to see both their reaction to the attendees and the reaction they also received. That first meeting is essential to gage how they will be perceived for this weekend and non disappointed - Eve rolling along stage ready for comedy combat, Naoko talking into a banana, Miracle stirring up the crowed into a cheering frenzy. Once all the guests had been announced they went off for a Gold ticket meet and greet to which I wasn't part of so I went off to party.
I'm not a fan of the meet and greet on a fri night not just as im a tight fisted bastard and i not a part if it- but because I like the party and when so many attendees are in the meet and greet the hall is empty for long time and saps the energy away. Saturday: This was a strange morning as I had met most guests before and being frugal with my money this time in preparation for upcoming events I only got two photo shoots so I had a lot of free time in the morning. Talk 3: Miracle Laurie and Enver Gjoki
Having seen these two at previous cons you know what to expect from them, like most Dollhouse cast they are very frank and honest and say it how it is, without sounding like its a bad thing but the less "famous actors" of a show are the best guests. They have an ok career and I hope will go to do bigger things as they deserve it - but at this stage they are free to be them selves there is no ego no bullshit being fed to them by network and managers etc and that's what makes then a great guest to watch and ultimately support. The talk went over much of the same as before when comes to time on dollhouse but when they went off topic that's when the gems appear and the talk followed up by Miracle and her great husband Chris playing on there ukulele's an expected and happy bonus Talk number 1: Robin Thorsen
I came in to this twenty minutes late and was thrown completely as Robin wasn't sitting on her chair there was my friend Ryan Caddell microphone in hand- very strange as if anyone was to mutiny and storm the stage hungry for fame it should be me .. Luckily before I made an advance to dethrone The little Joffrey-alike- I spotted Robin loose in the audience questioning people about star signs and things to do in London. Ryan had been put on the hot seat as a cohost ( this would rotate throughout the talk- I wanted to go up but once my friend Lydia had been up there was no way could compete with that amount of awesome up there- secretly I think she stole all my best lines... Somehow cause she not usually that funny ;) ) This was a very diff approach to a talk and was a good way to include people who may not know much about robin or the guild. Usually people get nervous at events being this involved in talks they like to stay low and hidden in their chairs but Robin has such a great friendly embracing personality you can't help lover her and want to be part of her world. This was the talk I was most looking forward to as Magda was the only guest I haven't ment before. So far in the opening ceremony, party and photo shoot she had made a good crazy fun impression and hope that the talk would be funny and exciting. Magda didn't disappoint she was fun though hungover and forthright with answers and as honest as you could hope. She ended the talk with few music video clips she was in from team unicorn and was singing along which was adorable. A great fun guest and hope she comes back for more.
