Wales comiccon May 2018
Arrived about 2 hours early to join the queue. I was awake anyway so prefer to use the time productively then just wait in hotel and then be further back in the queue
The time went quiet fast and all got in rather quick and effortlessly which bode well for a good event. So entered the main entrance , picked up my wristband and walked through the hall and back outside to join another queue to enter the main auto room.
Could see that there was already a line forming for the second hall - where the buffy guests were situated. But from what I could see from both lines - other then security on the door there were no staff around to advise what was happening or where to queue.
My first meet was Amy Jo Johnson who was the main guest I went for. I joint the queue and after a few minutes she arrived .
She signed 2 of my pops and a photo for a friend . But it wasn’t a very warm meet. She didn’t really engage and was more interested in fiddling with her music player . So a bit of a let down .
Her photo shoot was busy and I managed to get a pose with the Morphers but it was rushed and she didn’t really interact there either
Next was Frankie muniz.
He was nicer . Quiet but friendly . We had a brief chat about how Maisie has started to watch the show and keeps singing the theme tune over and over and over AND OVER !!!! We spoke about the show and that the only cast member he really talks about is Bryan Cranston so we spoke about him a bit. He seemed nice wasn’t a big talker but was a nicer interaction .
When we had the photo shoot we had a brief interaction and discussed his tattoos on his arm.
Richard Kahn
Another open queue and so jumped in to meet him. Again he seemed nice but there was no conversation . He pretty much signed the photo for my friend and moved me along. Though he had no signs up I asked and managed to get a free selfie from him :) I found out later he was also selling some presigned autos from the full home improvement cast £50 !!!
In the photo shoot he was warm and friendly and I saw him apologise to a child that he forgot his tool belt.
George Wendt
my first reaction was not great as his price had been increased from £20 to £25 so that wasn’t nice . He was sat with no queue so I hoped to get some time chatting. But there was nothing, I told him of my friend Daniel who would be coming to meet him as he is a giant Michael Jackson fan and wants him for the black or white video ... The pa enjoyed this fact but no real reply from George .
When we had the photo shoot he had to sit down on a chair . Felt very awkward getting down on knees to make the picture as I know I would be too tall and bending down would look strange so was I very worried it would look weird but it came out really well :). But again there was no interaction from him.
Greg Grunberg
I was meeting Greg for a friend to help add to his hero’s cast shot . Greg loved the piece and was asking who I had met and where and we discussed how heroes was a good show that just got messed around and it lost itself . How although the reboot was good it changed his character too much and felt like it went against who he was and he believed like most of us they zachary Levi was under used in the role . He said that he will be back for the next Star Wars film. I had met him before but I had to tell him again how much I loved his character in alias . This felt like my first real guest interaction of the weekend and was a nice chat . But my god does that man have massive hands . He is a great big guy.
Taylor gray
I had no idea who he was as don’t watch Star Wars rebels but was getting his auto for a friend . We had a nice chat about the show and how it was darker then average cartoons but stayed faithful to the original trilogy so it all made sense . He has just finished filming a VR game and was telling me about the process and how crazy it is . To film and two the motion capture for the hand movements .
That his next voice work is for the new reboot of SHE-RA . He was very friendly and great to interact with and a nice free selfie for my collection.
Christian and diamond Dallas page - the wrestler
These were two quick meet as again for a friend and I not watch wrestling since the classic wwf days . Had a very brief chat wit each and they did come across very friendly and nice - I just had no idea what to say to them. My only issue was that Christians price had been increased from £20 to £25.
Mark addy
Met him long long ago at a stage door and we spoke about the play and his roles on game of thrones and the full monty that one year will have to get him to do a costume photo shoot - which is just him in cling film.
Billy zane
I wanted to meet him for me and for a friend but I was unable to see him in the morning and by the time I returned his auto price had increased to £30 from £25 so I only got my friends as I do not agree with the price change like that. Billy came across really nice - chatted about legends of tomorrow and how it’s a good fun show and his time on the phantom. He said he liked his role in Titanic and that the character was flawed. He gave me a fist bump and off I went
The photo session is where many people have complained about Billy being a diva. I was one of the first through his line and he came in said it’s a hot day. It’s the last shoot of the day I smell you smell so I’m going to do the cross armed pose if you not want that you can get your money back but I’m not a hugger . Then he asked for the music to be put on and he danced as people came up to pose. He was friendly and seemed ok to me. Yes people may have poses in their heads or want hugs etc but it’s always the guests choice and not all guests want to be touched by strangers.
Hayley Attwell
Well .. this event I had met many guests and sad to say most of the ones at the desk had been rushed and not very talkative even tho they had zero line behind me . I have met Hayley a couple of times before and also seen her at other events . First time I met her she was lovely second time slightly colder then the reports since have not been very positive . There was no queue and I tried to talk about agent carter but got nothing she was on her phone out it down signed and after half listening to what I said she went back to her phone. Really not seem bothered at all.
Her photo shoot was rushed and she also didn’t look impressed in most of the photos I saw . I had mine taken but it came out bad - angle of my head and she looks like she was half talking so I Luckily managed a reshoot but again she still looked uninterested
That was all the guests that I met for autos the rest were photoshoots only
Michael Rowe - nice and happy to pose
Matt Ryan - a very sweet man - he had the Constantine hair !!!! But it was under a hat so we compromised and he showed a bit of it in a silly pic pose .
Anthony Stewart Head - this man is always do generous and caring. Happy to pose and make people smile. My friend got my Giles pop signed with a nice quote on it
Juliet Landau- Sweet and caring as always
Rick Cosnett - one of the nicest guests I have met over the years. This is my third time meeting him and he always give 110% to all. He loved the silly poses in the photo shoots and my new pic is one of my all time faves .
Paul Mcgann - after many years of not bothering to get him to him then cancelling on me 3 times I finally got my pic with . He was polite and friendly
Alexandra Breckinridge- so sweet so beautiful I love my photo with her
Eion Bailey - was friendly and seemed nice
Overall was a good day . Got all things I wanted ( well after cancellations ) sadly most of my guest interactions at the desks were not that positive . But the photo sessions were more positive. As predicted from when the schedule was announced the photo op times were not long enough with many over running . But because of a gap in room B they managed to move one across to catch up for the end of the day.
Photo distribution started off ok but again as the day went on it became too much again. With crowds pushing at the staff trying to pass out the photos.
The big issue yet again for this event is the venue . The weather was very hot and sunny so people were lucky they not get wet but having to queue up in that for hours on end for photos or hall entry isn’t much better either .
There were long queues to get into the signing halls with the buffy hall the worse as people were queuing hours to even get a VQ ticket for Tony head .
There were very few staff around . I can count on one hand how many I saw throughout the day that were not in the photo room . So when an issue did arise no one really knew what was going on .
There were guests that changed prices on the day which I think is not acceptable and the official line that it’s not up to the event it’s up to the agent just isn’t right .
The organiser runs the event . They are responsible for what happens at that event . They may have agreed on the contract that guests set charges and can change at any time but thats the contract they agreed to they need to take responsibility and not try to pass the buck.
Overall the delays didn’t affect me too much so overall I enjoyed the event. Just a shame the guests were not as great to meet as I had hoped
